The film ‘Rise of the Wahine’ will be shown on the Big Island, first at Kona’s Honua Studios at 8:30 p.m. Thursday and at the Hilo Palace Theater at 4:45 p.m. Sunday.

The film tells the story of the formation of the Rainbow Wahine volleyball team ,and the early pioneers of women’s athletics, former UH athletic director Dr. Donnis Thompson and the late Patsy Mink.

The story focuses on Title IX and also how the Wahine program came to be.

After the Hilo Palace Theater showing, director Dean Kaneshiro and producers Tiffany Taylor and Ryan Tsuji will answer questions.
