Herbert Tadashi Abe, 70, of Kurtistown, died Oct. 30 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he owned Kanake Hawaii, a maker of dried ahi snacks, and was a U.S. Army Vietnam War veteran, member of Kurtistown Jodo Mission, Kurtistown Young Men’s Association, and former member of Hilo Jaycees and Lions Club. Visitation 4-5 p.m. Saturday at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Memorial service at 5 p.m. Graveside urn committal service 9 a.m. Monday, Nov. 17, at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Casual attire. Naonosuke Sugai, 104, of Kurtistown died Oct. 30 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Olaa, he was a retired carpenter for the former Theo H. Davies &Co. and member of Puna Covenant Church, beekeeper, Eagle Scout and former scout master of Boys Scouts of America Troop #36 in Kurtistown.
