Big Island Granite Co. Inc. of Hilo will represent Hawaii in the nationally televised “A Hero’s Welcome,” premiering Tuesday on Scripps cable channels.

The company donated its time and resources to one of Hawaii’s own heros, Staff Sgt. Tony Woods, a 25-year service member who suffered life-threatening injuries during his service in Iraq. He and his wife were in desperate need of renovations to their Oahu home.

“His story was so touching that there was no way we could pass up the opportunity to help this family in need,” said Mark Kitagawa, owner of Big Island Granite. “Especially for a family that has taken in foster kids and has been so selfless themselves, it was time for them to be the receivers instead of the givers.”

Actor Gary Sinise, Food Network star Robert Irvine and HGTV designer Genevieve Gorder all participated in this life-changing event in honor of all veterans.

Coinciding with Veterans Day, this special will air on Scripps networks: The Food Network, Cooking Channel, Great American Country, HGTV, DIY Network and the Travel Channel. Check local listings for specific times and channels.

Big Island Granite has been in business since 2007, and services all islands. The firm specializes in kitchen and bathroom cabinets, as well as granite countertops.
