On behalf of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3830 and our Ladies Auxiliary, and event coordinator Marlene Hapai, the VFW Post 3830, serving many of the island of Hawaii’s veterans, their families and the community, we would like to thank the many sponsors, volunteers and the more than 400 people who came out to support our fourth annual “A Salute to Our Veterans” Hilo Bay 5K on the Fourth of July.

This year, the event — established in 2011 to raise funds to improve facilities and programs to better serve Hawaii’s needy veterans — honored the late Commander George H. Kelly, a founder of and participant in all previous events and known locally and nationally for his leadership in veterans outreach programs.
