Gemini’s quick-acting day crew responded Thursday to a vehicle that was completely engulfed in flames in the north parking area adjacent to the telescope complex on the summit of Mauna Kea. All Gemini vehicles were removed from the scene, with firefighter and Gemini safety officer John Vierra ensuring everyone’s safety. The vehicle fire eventually burned out. Reports from staff indicate the vehicle was unoccupied at the time of the blaze. Photo courtesy of Gemini/AURA imaged by Simon Chan.
