Hawaii Island police brought home some hardware after participating in the 2014 SHOPO State Basketball Tournament held Aug. 30-31 in Kilauea, Kauai.

Hawaii Island police brought home some hardware after participating in the 2014 SHOPO State Basketball Tournament held Aug. 30-31 in Kilauea, Kauai.

Three teams made up of police officers and friends played in three divisions: Open, Masters, and Golden Masters.

The tournament is an annual event hosted by Hawaii’s police departments on a rotational basis.

In the Golden Masters Division, “Bay City Blues” of the Big Island finished in third place after heart-breaking losses.

In the championship game, “Run N Gun” from Oahu narrowly beat “Ohana Blue” from Kauai with a score of 39-35.

Members of the All-Star team included Robert Wagner and Tommy Waltjen from “Bay City Blues.” Other players on the “Bay City Blues” team were Greg Esteban, Walter Ah Mow, Rollin Rabara, Bill Vickery, Prentiss Moreno, Edwin Namohala, and Wally Ogata.

In the Masters Division, Big Island won the championship over “Ohana Blue” with a score of 43-35.

Keith Nacis led the Big Island with 18 points and was selected the MVP for the Masters Division.

Joining Nacis on the All-Star team were Keenan Kaleo and Chuck Cobile from the Big Island. Other members of the Big Island team were Aaron Kaleo, Roland Kuamoo, Josh Flores, Namohala, Kana Correa, Auggie Aina, C.C. Melendez, Wagner and Moreno.
