More than 150 well-wishers attended Wednesday’s 2014 Vulcans Hilo Hall of Fame Banquet to honor inductees Bill Trumbo, left, Leo Sing Chow, center, and Arthur Santos at Nani Mau Gardens.
During her career from 2003-07 at the University of Hawaii at Hilo, Sing Chow was a four-time all-conference, all-region and National Fastpitch Coaches Association Scholar/Athlete selection. During that span, the Vulcans won two Pacific West Conference championships and appeared in three NCAA Regionals.
Sing Chow currently coaches the Hilo High School softball team.
During his career from 1975-79, Santos was a four-year player and won the 1975 Hawaii State Collegiate Singles title.
While a student, he started and coached the Waiakea High School tennis program. Since leaving UH-Hilo, he has conducted prison and wheelchair tennis programs in Hawaii and Wisconsin.
From 1990-2000, Trumbo guided the athletic department through its transition from the NAIA to the NCAA. Along the way, he secured corporate sponsorships for various programs, founded and built the Vulcans Athletic Hall of Fame, created multiple top-level collegiate basketball tournaments and engineered nine Vulcans Athletic Scholarship Fund Drives.
