The Hilo Hongwanji Buddhist Women’s Association’s Gigantic Garage Sale on Saturday, Aug. 2, at the Sangha Hall was a tremendous success.

The Hilo Hongwanji Buddhist Women’s Association’s Gigantic Garage Sale on Saturday, Aug. 2, at the Sangha Hall was a tremendous success.

We’d like to thank the hundreds of excited shoppers who enjoyed the outstanding and wide array of items, some used, some new treasures, hand-crafted items, plants and flowers donated by church members, as well as by generous friends from the community.

Because of the support of the community, we were able to surpass our goal, once again. The proceeds will be used for the many projects for our temple, including the upcoming 125th anniversary of our temple on Nov. 23.

Many shoppers exclaimed that they look forward to our annual garage sale because of the treasures they find for a very reasonable price and how organized the garage sale is.

This is a testament of the many weeks spent preparing for the sale by our dedicated members.

We donated many unsold items to the many agencies in the community who serve the needy, such as the women’s shelter, Under His Wings, Hope Services, Easter Seals and others.

Again, mahalo to the many shoppers and a very special mahalo to the BWA members and temple volunteers who worked tirelessly preparing for this huge undertaking.
