The Rev. Harlan Edward Kalles, aka “Brother Kalles,” 86, of Hilo died Aug. 2 at home. Born in Puyallup, Wash., he was senior pastor at Family Christian Center in Hilo. Visitation 8-10 a.m. Sunday at Family Christian Center. Funeral service at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Alae Cemetery. Casual attire; no flowers. Survived by daughters, Debbie (Pastor Rusty) Fields and Tina (Harold) Fujii of Keaau; Kimi (Frank) Wehrsig of Hilo; son, Shawn (Bridgette) Kalles of Vancouver, Wash.; sister, Harriet Smallwood of Spanaway, Wash.; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Manuel “Moon” Marques, 92, of Pahala died Aug. 5 at home. Born in Pahala Portuguese Camp, he was a retired crane operator and harvesting foreman for the former Ka‘u Sugar Co., owner-operator of Naalehu Macadamia Nut Farm and member of Pahala Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Visitation 8-10 a.m. Saturday at Pahala Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Mass at 10 a.m. Casual attire. Chiyoko Mizoshiri, 85, of Kailua-Kona died July 15 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Hilo, she was a housewife. Services held. No flowers or koden (monetary gifts). Survived by sons, Glenn Mizoshiri of Kealakekua, Dane Mizoshiri of Honolulu and Brian (Lori Ann) Mizoshiri of Waipahu, Oahu; brother, Ralph Honda of San Jose, Calif.; sisters, Edith Bradway of Downey, Calif., and Hazel Miyahira of Gardena, Calif.; two grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. Joseph Victor “Joe” Santos, 88, of Honokaa died Aug. 12 at home. Born in Honokaa, he worked for the former Hamakua Sugar Co., was a plumber for Sea Life Park on Oahu and Dough &Delace Co., and member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Visitation 8-10 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa. Mass at 10 a.m. Casual attire. Burial at Honokaa Catholic Cemetery. Survived by wife, Bernice Santos of Honokaa; son, Joseph C. Santos of Papaaloa; daughter, Barbara (Eugene) Valencia of Laupahoehoe; step-daughter, Bernadette Ku of Wailuku, Maui; brother, James Virgin Santos of Pahoa; six grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; nieces, nephews and cousins.
