Project Hawaii Inc. — a nonprofit organization operated by volunteers and supported by public donations — is inviting “local celebrities” to hop onboard and help the group at a couple of upcoming benefits.

“Our mission is to enhance the lives of homeless keiki living in extreme poverty. Our ongoing year-round programs help these children gain the self-esteem they need to escape their cycle of poverty,” said organization founder Magin Patrick.

“Our program provides food, clothing, hygiene, holiday events and we just finished up our award-winning summer camp for these precious children. Our summer camp is a vital part of the overall success of our program. Providing these children with educational exploration, self awareness, gaining life skills and then going back to school prepared,” said Patrick.

“Now, in order to continue with their educational needs, we have planned two charity events to raise the funds needed for their educational supportive needs. Such items as equipment for school-based sports, athletic shoes, uniforms, dues, etc. Who knows, one of these precious children could be the next superstar from our islands,” she said. “So, we are seeking a few local celebrities to participate in our upcoming event and be the ‘bounties’ allowing our guests to compete for prizes while putting a target on your back.

“We invite you to step up to the challenge and make a difference in the lives of homeless children. Calling all types of celebs: radio deejays, politicians, school heroes, even business owners,” Patrick said.

“To us, anyone making a difference in our world is a celebrity. So, if you know anything about the game Texas Hold’em and wish to participate in this fun charity event, please contact us for all the details.”

The events will be Sept. 7 in Hilo and Sept. 27 in Waikoloa.

“Helping to raise the awareness about homelessness among children is so important if we are ever going to find the solution to ending this unnecessary crisis,” Patrick said. “There is no reason for any child to go to bed without a meal, and definitely not on our islands.”
