Hilo Higashi Hongwanji Mission, at 216 Mohouli St. at the corner of Mohouli and Kapiolani streets, invites the community to its annual Hatsu Bon (paying homage and remembering those who passed away within the past 12 months) service at 6 p.m. Saturday.

The traditional Bon dance will follow at 7 p.m. to celebrate this festivity. Andagi, hot dogs and assorted refreshments will be available for purchase.

“Come early and enjoy the various foods at the concession before it runs out,” said David Kohara, Higashi chairman.

“O-Bon is also a time to reunite with family and friends. The Ura Bon (day after O-Bon) service will be held on Sunday, at 10 a.m. We welcome the public for free to attend both services and the Bon dance.”
