The leadership at Heritage Christian Fellowship (HCF) invites the community to a special revival series Aug. 8-10 at the church located at 165 E. Kawili St., on the corner of Kawili and Manono streets in Hilo.

The revival will feature Pastor Clyde Kakiuchi, Pastor Michael Abagon, Pastor Aaron Yamasaki and Louann Kimura.

On Oct. 15, 1995, with Pastor Richard Uejo leading, HCF was formed when a group of 15 believers gathered for worship at the home of Roger and Carolyn Kuntemeyer. Steadfastly, they continued to meet for eight years at the Hilo Lagoon Centre. In 2004, Uejo retired and Pastor Lloyd Narimatsu was called to continue the leadership at HCF. Today, the congregation numbers more than 270 members.

“We came in with the ultimate vision of following God’s truth, which is to love him first, then to love all others,” said Narimatsu.

The HCF Revival will begin at 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8. Participants will worship through spiritual music, followed by dinner at 6 p.m. Then, the Revival Service will commence at 7 p.m. The opening message for the revival will be delivered by Kakiuchi, the leadership development director for the Hawaii Pacific Baptist Convention (HPBC), whose headquarters is in Honolulu. Kakiuchi services all HPBC churches in such areas as Sunday school, discipleship, leadership development, weekday early education and vacation Bible school. His passion is being on mission locally and globally.

On Saturday, Aug. 9, the revival resumes at 2 p.m., with eight revival seminars throughout the afternoon led by Kakiuchi, Abagon, Yamasaki and Kimura. Seminars will be at 2:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. Participants will be given the opportunity to select two classes from the extensive menu.

Kakiuchi will lead the youth in two dynamic related sessions, “Life-Changing Gratitude (Luke 17:11-19)” and “Life-Changing Decisions (Matthew 6:33, Proverbs 3:5-6).”

Abagon, known to many as “Bong,” was born in the Philippines. He ministered in California, then 17 years ago moved to Hawaii with his wife. He was pastoring First Baptist Church of Wahiawa for seven years before joining the HPBC staff. Currently, Bong is the director of evangelism, prayer and worship. He also helps facilitate cooperative work among the 153 churches in reaching the millions of people who live in Hawaii, Guam, American Samoa, Saipan, Japan and South Korea. This is accomplished through revival preaching, pulpit supply, worship leading, training people for evangelism, prayer and worship and resourcing and coordinating cooperative events among churches.

On Saturday, Bong will teaching two sessions about “Lessons of Revival from the Seven Churches in Asia Minor (Revelation 2-3).”

Yamasaki works for the state Department of Labor and Industrial Relations. He received his Master of Divinity Degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Yamasaki completed post graduate work in Clinical Pastoral Education and worked as a chaplain at Memorial-Herman Hospital Systems in Houston. After living in Houston, he decided it was time to return to his hometown of Hilo. Upon his return, he served on staff at Kaumana Drive Baptist Church. He then worked at Hospice of Hilo as a bereavement and spiritual counselor.

Yamasaki will incorporate his wealth of knowledge in leading two informative sessions Saturday about the topic “What is Revival? &When Does Revival Become the Real Thing? (Isaiah 6:1-8).”

Kimura, a founding member of HCF, has been a public school teacher for 27 years and currently is the curriculum coordinator at Waiakea High School. She brings to life what she is teaching through life’s experiences and sense of humor. Kimura will present lively and interactive God-centered classes at 2:30 p.m., which will be repeated again at 4 p.m.

After dinner, Bong will cap the evening revival at 7 p.m. with his message, “Where Blessings Begin,” based on Revelation 1:1-3.

At 9:25 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 10, Bong will wrap up the revival with a powerful and thought-provoking message, “Doing Things Out of Love,” based on Revelation 2:1-7.

The theme of the revival comes from Psalm 85:6, which asks a powerful question, “Will You not revive us again, that Your people may rejoice in You?”
