The Big Island Retired Military Association presented the 2014 BIRMA-Mark Allen Traxler Memorial scholarship certificate and a $1,000 check to Reid K. Daugherty at the BIRMA June meeting.

The award is in memory of Mark Traxler, son of James and Carol Traxler of Kailua-Kona.

Reid recently graduated from Konawaena High School and has been accepted at University of Hawaii at Manoa where he will major in Meteorology. He was granted the BIRMA scholarship based on his high grade-point average, outstanding school leadership and community record.

Reid, an Eagle Scout and member of the track and field team, is a cadet lt. colonel/flight commander in the Civil Air Patrol and Battalion Adjutant/S1 in the Junior Army Reserve Officer Training Corps.

Applicants must have a high school GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 grading system.
