Softball clinic at Panaewa Park

There will be a softball clinic for ages 8-15 this weekend at Panaewa Park.

Hitting and fielding drills will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, and a pitching session will run from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday. Pitchers must bring their own catcher.

The registration fee is $20.

Strong Man at Waiakea

The Big Island Substance Abuse Council’s second annual Strong Man Contest will be held from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Waiakea High, and spots for male adults are still available.

Registration is $50 (if unable to pay then waivers are available) and sign-ups will be taken through Thursday.

Puna AYSO sign-ups ongoing

Puna AYSO soccer is accepting registration for the fall season, which runs from mid-August through November.

AYSO accepts new and returning girls and boys between the ages of 4 and 18

Players can register online at www.eayso.org -Region 738. Print three copies of the registration form and mail with payment to: AYSO PUNA, P.O. Box 955, Keaau, HI 96749.

The registration fee is $65, and late sign-ups after Sunday will be $75.

HPA seeking assistant coach

Hawaii Preparatory Academy is looking for an assistant varsity girls volleyball coach. The season runs from Aug. 4 to Nov. 1.

Konawaena is accepting applications for the varsity and junior varsity baseball head coach positions for the upcoming school year.

The Viking Football coaching staff will be holding a mandatory parent meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the school’s cafeteria.

Program expectations and details about the season will be discussed.

Sunrise Athletics run/walk on tap

Sunrise Athletics’ second annual 5K and 1.5-mile Fun Run/Walk — Supported by BioAstin will be held July 26 at Liliuokalani Gardens in Hilo. The 5k will start at 7:30 a.m. and the 1.5-mile race at 8:15 a.m.

There will be postrace snacks, giveaways, field-day events and a rummage sale ongoing throughout the event. There will be awards for the top overall runners, age group and other categories. The “Race to the Top” organization winner bringing in the most participants will be announced and given the monetary award.

Applications may be picked up at Spencer’s Health and Fitness, Just Cruising Coffee, Starbucks-Puainako and Big Island Running Company in Kailua-Kona and Hilo.
