A new commercial development is being proposed for Hawaiian Ocean View Estates.
The property is located on the mauka side of Mamalahoa Highway and also connects with Lehua Lane and Keaka Parkway.
Consisting of four parcels, the 4.143-acre site would be developed with 54,000-square-feet of commercial space.
Another 12,500 square feet would be used as an open, landscaped area for periodic craft fairs, thespian events and public gatherings, according to a request for rezoning.
The applicant, William C. Foulk, is seeking to change the zoning from agricultural to village commercial.
The Hawaii County Council’s Planning Committee gave a favorable recommendation to the request Thursday.
Council members will consider the request again while meeting as the full council.
The Windward Planning Commission also gave the request a favorable recommendation.
The development would be located almost adjacent to Ocean View Market.
