Yoko Arai, 81, of Hilo, formerly of Honolulu, died June 24 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Hilo, she was a housekeeper for an elderly housing facility on Oahu. Services held. Survived by companion, Donald Barrios of Honolulu; brother, Toichi (Hanako) Arai of Hilo; sisters, Shimomi Araujo of Hilo and Tomoko Lasua of Ewa Beach, Oahu; nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. The Rev. Walther “Walt” Richard Dettweiler, 81, of Waimea died July 2 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Newark, N.J., he was a retired Episcopal priest, jazz musician, spiritual counselor and a long-time Alcoholics Anonymous member. Visitation 9:15-10 a.m. Saturday, July 19, at St. James Episcopal Church in Waimea. Service at 10 a.m. Potluck luncheon to follow. No flowers. Memorial donations to St. James Episcopal Church. Alfred “Freddy” Joaquin Nobriga, 89, of Hilo died July 5 at home. Born in Kaapahu, he was a rancher. Visitation 3-4 p.m. Saturday at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Memorial service at 4 p.m. Casual attire; no flowers. Survived by wife, Gaylyn R. Nobriga of Hilo; sons, Alfred (Lillian) Nobriga of Hilo and Joseph (Diane) Pacheco of Kamuela; daughters, Violet Nobriga of Honokaa and Sheila (Bill) Chambers of Honokaa; sister, Linda Erskine of Hilo; 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Burton Ryan Salas, 24, of Wailuku, Maui, died April 9. Born in Hilo, he was an adult corrections officer at Maui Community Correctional Center. Mark Kandell Salboro, 55, of Bristol, Va., formerly of Papaaloa, died Dec. 30 at Bristol Regional Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he worked for the former Hamakua Sugar Co. and Paniolo Greens. Celebration of life 9:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 17, at Laupahoehoe Point large pavilion. Memorial service at 11 a.m. Scattering of ashes at a later date.
