Arnold “Arnie” Takao Asato, 57, of Hilo died June 6. Born in Hilo, he worked for 26 years with the Hawaii County Hilo Municipal Golf Course Golf Course as an operations assistant and was a member of the Hustlers Golf Club, the Wreckers Golf Club, Palaka Golf Club, 3+9 Golf Club, Hawaii Island Golf Association/Hilo Muni Golf Club Handicapping Committee and the Ikenobo Ikebana Society, and was a youth baseball coach. Celebration of life will be Tuesday, July 15, at Aunty Sally’s Luau Hale. Visitation at 3 p.m., services at 5 p.m. Colorful attire requested. Survived by wife, Wendy Asato; mother, Mieko Asato; sisters Lori (Ted) Hamada and Joanne (Lance) Yoshiyama; one stepdaughter; one granddaughter; three nephews, one niece, one grandnephew.

Daniel Delbert Beer, 71, of Meadow Valley, Calif., and Pahoa died July 1 in California. Born in San Francisco, he was a retired hydroelectric mechanic for Pacific Gas &Electric and previously worked in electronics for Intel, former president of Friends of Panaewa Rainforest Zoo, member of Opihikao Congregational Church and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. James Y.C. “Jimmy” Lee, 86, of Hilo died June 23 at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born in Kawaihae, he was a hunter, taxidermist, owner of the former Jimmy’s Archery and Taxidermy, member of Hawaii Island Archery Club and the Kaumana Alenaio Kumiai, and U.S. Army Korean war veteran. Yuichi “Harold” Tanaka of Lihue, Kauai, died June 24 at Wilcox Memorial Hospital. Born in Waimea, he was a self-employed master plumber. Services held.
