Volcano Garden Arts will play host to a Summer Arts Festival from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday, following the annual Volcano Fourth of July Parade at 9 a.m. from the Volcano Post Office to Cooper Center on Wright Road. Proceeds will benefit the art department at Volcano School of Arts and Sciences.

Activities will include lauhala weaving by Kuuipo Morales, a “make and take” recycled art workshop, a reading and book-signing by children’s author Catherine Killam, Zentangle art demonstrations by Earl and Lois Stokes, a bake sale, a student art sale, cast concrete demonstration, live music, family fun activities and a special plate lunch by Cafe Ono, which just was awarded a “Certificate of Excellence” from Tripadvisor for the second year in a row.

Ono, the founder/director of Volcano Garden Arts and an award-winning artist and teacher, will also serve as grand marshal for this year’s parade. Ono, a longtime supporter of Volcano School of Arts and Sciences, is perhaps best known as the founder of the “Trash Art Shows” throughout the islands. He is also one of the founders of the Volcano Artists Hui, which hosts open studio tours in Volcano every November.

“So, after the parade on Friday, July 4, come over to Volcano Garden Arts for more fun, entertainment and food, and help to support our local school right here in Volcano,” Ono said.
