Members of the Friends of the Zoo recently presented their annual Gordon Granger/Sally Rogers Scholarship for $2,000 to Santana Soria to assist her in furthering her studies in the field of veterinary medicine.

While attending the University of Hawaii at Hilo, studying Animal Science, she has volunteered almost 500 hours of her time at the zoo.

After graduation in 2015 she plans to attend the School of Veterinary Medicine at Oregon State University with a particular interest in primates.

“After completing my studies, I hope to return to the Big Island to open my own practice and continue to help at the Panaewa Rainforest Zoo,” Soria said.
