Karate tourney July 12 in Hilo

The International Karate League will be host a Tournament of Champions from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. July 12 at Edith Kanaka’ole Multipurpose Stadium.

Marking the first IKL tournament in Hilo in 28 years, the event will welcome schools from the mainland and the islands.

The tournament is being hosted by Wilbur Mina of Keaau Dojo.

Admission is free.

Aikane Tennis plays Tuesday

Aikane Tennis will hold tennis play from 7-10 p.m. Tuesday at the Edith Kanaka’ole Multipurpose Stadium from 7-10 p.m.

Members are $2 and non-members $5.

Basketball clinics upcoming in Hilo

Former University of Hawaii at Hilo basketball player Aukai Wong will hold basketball clinics in Hilo from 5:45-7:45 p.m. on seven Sundays — June 22, June 29, July 6, July 13, July 20, July 27 and Aug. 3.

There are two divisions, one for intermediate boys and girls and another for high school boys and girls, and one hour will be devoted to a study session with another on “intense” basketball drills.

A T-shirt, drinks and a snack are included at each clinic.

Hilo triathlon set for July 13

Hilo’s first official triathlon will start at 7 a.m. July 13 at James Kealoha Beach Park.

The Olympic-distance race — 1.5-kilometer swim, 40-km bike ride and 10-km run — is limited to 500 participants.

Registration is $175 through June 30.

Klask shoots ace at Hilo Muni

Cliff Klask aced the par 3, 148-yard 8th hole on Saturday at Hilo Municipal Golf Course. He used a hybrid while playing with the Hawaiian Golf Club.

Witnessing Klask’s third hole-in-one were Walta Ahuna, Adrian Cadaos, Gary Ichinose and Vic Vierra.

Softball tourney slated in August

Teams are being sought for the “Battling for Cancer” 14-inch softball tournament scheduled Aug. 23-24 at Walter Victor Complex.

The tourney includes kupunas, men’s and women’s mixed teams. Entry fee is $200 per team.
