Former St. Joseph High School multi-sport standout Steve Strout has been named the 2014 California Coaches Association’s State Badminton Coach of the Year.

Former St. Joseph High School multi-sport standout Steve Strout has been named the 2014 California Coaches Association’s State Badminton Coach of the Year.

Last month, Strout, who coaches at Irvington High School in Fremont, Calif., was named the Northern California Badminton Coach of the Year. Strout was presented his state award June 14 at the California Coaches’ Association banquet.

Strout is a 1980 St. Joseph graduate who earned his teaching degree at Chico State (1984) and Masters degree from San Jose State (1992). At Irvington, he has coached badminton since 1991 as well as previously coached basketball (8 years), volleyball (8 years) and tennis (2 years).
