Hilo High School celebrated its annual Project UNIFY Acceptance Campaign on April 22. This year’s campaign was called “Viks Unite.”

Special Olympics, Project UNIFY is an educational- and sports-based program that provides opportunities for young people of all abilities to be leaders in their schools and communities by promoting equality and acceptance for all individuals.

The campaign included the collaboration of Special Olympic student-athletes, along with groups that participate with them throughout the school year. Teams were formed by culinary, hula and Japanese classes, Leo Club, Key Club, Blue and Gold Club, girls basketball members and the SA representatives.

A “Mini Olympics” took place in which all teams participated in friendly competitions. Pledge sheets were signed by hundreds of students committing to promote acceptance, equality and respect for all students.
