Born in Paauhau, she was the owner of the Waimea General Store and Waimea Woolcraft, co-author of “Georgia O’Keefe’s Hawaii” and was formerly a member of West Hawaii Players and Waimea Community Players. Akiko Hanano, 87, of Waimea, died May 27 at home. Born in Honokaa, she was a retired clerk for the United States Postal Service and a member of the Kamuela Hongwanji Mission, Kamuela American Japanese Civic Association and Kamuela Hongwanji Buddhist Women’s Association.
