A basic workshop from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 7, is a prerequisite for the “Zendala” experience, to be offered from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, at the Volcano Art Center Niaulani Campus. Call VAC coordinators at 967-8222 or visit www.volcanoartcenter.org to register.
Instructor Julie Evans says, “Mandala meets Zentangle in a wonderfully harmonious union that will inspire you to put pen to paper.
“No more squares. Instead the tile squares are replaced by the mandala circle. Experienced ‘tanglers’ will have the opportunity to learn almost 10 new tangles and explore tangle enhancements as well as shading and color techniques; all in the round.”
Evans and Lois and Earl Stokes will teach the “Zentangle: Zendala” on June 21. Cost is $30 for VAC members and $35 for non-members, plus a $10 supply fee. Light refreshments will be provided.
Following Zentangle’s motto: “Anything is possible one stroke at a time,” the three have learned over 106 tangle patterns from Maria Thomas and Rick Roberts, the founders of the Zentangle process. As the state’s only certified instructors, they now share the deconstruction of these tangles with their students.
