Scott Squier struck out nine in a complete game Thursday night, and the University of Hawaii downed UC Riverside 5-1 to start a season-ending series at Les Murakami Stadium in Honolulu.

The Rainbow Warriors (21-30, 5-17) got leadoff singles from Stephen Ventimilia in the second, Austin Wobrock in the third and Tyler Young in the seventh, and each came around to score, two courtesy of errors.

Kaeo Aliviado finished 2 for 4, including a run-scoring single in the seventh inning, and Ventimilia scored two runs.

Squier (5-5) allowed seven hits and three walks and hit three batters, lowering his ERA to 3.48.

The only run the 6-foot-6 sophomore left-hander yielded came in the sixth when David Andriese walked, stole second and scored on Drake Zarate’s triple.

Jacob Smigelski (8-6) allowed five runs (three earned) on eight hits and a walk with two strikeouts for the Highlanders (25-27, 11-11)
