Benjamin Comawas Mahilum, 82, of Honokaa died May 10 at home. Born in Calatrava, Negros Occidental, Philippines, he was a retired professor in soil science at the University of Hawaii and for Philippines universities. Services held. Survived by wife, Paulita Mahilum of Honokaa; sons, David (Elsie) Mahilum of the Philippines, Lyman (Marife) Mahilum of Yokosuka, Japan, Jorge (Debbi) Mahilum of Kailua-Kona, and Don (Seanna) Mahilum of Mililani, Oahu; daughters, Lourdes (Cesar) Nadala of Seattle, Junever (John West) Mahilum-West of Toronto; 20 grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Sandra Catherine Pillette, 68, of Ocean View died April 27 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Detroit, she was a substitute teacher at Pahala High School, designed Kahuku Park and Kahuku Fire Station and was a member of Elks Club of Kona. Private services. Survived by son, Kelly Pillette of Ocean View; stepson, David Pillette III of Michigan; stepdaughter, Mary (Ken) Popour of Michigan; sisters, Andrea (Fred) Ohr of New Jersey and Kathleen Wallace of Michigan; 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
