CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — The Transportation Security Administration has opened an enrollment office at Charlotte Douglas International Airport where passengers can apply to move through expedited security lanes.

A statement from TSA says Piedmont Triad, Raleigh-Durham and Wilmington airports are also participating in the program.
Pre-Check screening status is valid for five years and allows travelers to go through speeded-up security lanes. Enrolled travelers can leave their shoes on, keep laptops inside bags and go through a conventional metal detector instead of body-scanning machines at security checkpoints.
U.S. citizens and permanent residents can apply for Pre-Check for $85. They must complete an online form and apply in person to provide documentation and fingerprints for a background check.
The Pre-Check center is behind the security checkpoints and is only open to ticketed or connecting passengers.
