June 7 at Muni

The final United States Amateur Public Links sectional qualifier on the Big Island will be held June 7 at Hilo Municipal Golf Course.

Any bona-fide public links amateur golfers with a handicap index limit of 4.4 may participate, entering at champs.usga.org.

The deadline for entries is 11 a.m. HST May 28, and post entries and incomplete entries will be rejected.

The national championship will be held at Sand Creek Station Golf Course in Newton, Kan., on July 14-19.

Special Olympics

Registration is being held for the Special Olympics East Hawaii Golf season, which will begin May 23.

Practices will be held each Friday through August 22 at the Naniloa Volcanoes Golf Course.

There will be a tournament/ fundraiser at the end of the season at a course to be announced.

Drive, Chip & Putt to Augusta

The Drive, Chip & Putt Championship local qualifier will be held at 1 p.m. May 24 at Hilo Municipal Golf Course for boys and girls ages 7-15.

Qualifers will play in an Oahu sub-regional and there will be a regional held. The finals are in Augusta, Ga., on the Sunday before the 2015 Masters.

Big Dog run

Sunday in Hilo

Big Island Road Runners is sponsoring its annual Wayne “Big Dog” Joseph run at 7:30 a.m. Sunday at Reeds Bay Park in Hilo.

Registration starts at 6:30 a.m., and two male and two female senior high school students will each be awarded a $1,000 scholarship at the event

Hapuna Beach swimming event

The Hapuna Beach Roughwater Swim, part of the Bike Works Triple Crown Series, will take place June 14 at Hapuna Beach.

High school rodeo finals

The Hawaii High School Rodeo at Paniolo Park in Waimea features the state finals high school division June 12 to 15.

The competition is free; donations are welcome. Food will be sold, with proceeds to benefit the program.

Shotgun course

for teens on tap

The Waiakea Recreation Center will offer an NRA shotgun shooting course for ages 13-18.

The free program will be held 8 a.m.-2 p.m. June 9 and 14, and registration is open to the first 10 participants.
