The community is invited to today’s monthly meeting of the Hilo Salvation Army Advisory Board at noon at Hilo headquarters, 219 Ponahawai St.

The status of new projects will be discussed. The board also has several vacancies for those interested in volunteering for this Christ-centered community outreach ministry.

Contact captains Celestine or Shoshannah Ruwethin if you are interested at 935-1277.

Community-minded professionals are needed to fill several vacancies on the advisory board, which helps establish and monitor programs that benefit the many needs of the community.

For example, the Ponahawai Street facility continues to provide a free, nutritious lunch three times a week to those in need.

There are several projects in the planning stage and board members will provide input, direction and kokua for the Salvation Army leadership team.

The advisory board currently meets for an hour at noon on the third Thursday of the month.
