Aloha Performing Arts Company’s Missouri-born artistic director Jerry Tracy has been invited to present his one-man show, “Mark Twain Rides Again,” for a special two-performance engagement at the Manoa Valley Theatre on Oahu.
Aloha Performing Arts Company’s Missouri-born artistic director Jerry Tracy has been invited to present his one-man show, “Mark Twain Rides Again,” for a special two-performance engagement at the Manoa Valley Theatre on Oahu.
Tracy will take the stage at 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, May 26-27, as part of the MVT Studio Series.
Twain’s historic visit to Hawaii in 1866 is recounted in the quasi-historical presentation, which includes humorous anecdotes woven together with current day references.
It follows Twain from his arrival by ship, through horseback adventures on Oahu and an epic mule journey through Kona and Ka‘u, to his exploration of Kilauea.
His entertaining stories include observing nude female swimmers, attempting to surf, visiting Kealakekua Bay and a dubious account of the origin of the Mark Twain Monkeypod Tree at Waiohinu.
Tracy appears as the old, white-haired Twain in his signature white linen suit, reminiscing about his adventures in paradise.
The show also will feature an interview between Twain and a special mystery celebrity guest in the second act.
Tickets are $20 for adults, $17 for MVT season subscribers and accompanying guests, and $15 for youths 25 years old and younger. Minimum suggested age is 10 years old.
Doors will open 30 minutes prior to the 7 p.m. showtime, and there is no latecomer seating.
