Takeshi “Blackie” Matsunaka, 94, of Papaikou died April 23 at a private care home in Hilo. Born in Papaikou, he was a retired factory supervisor for the former Hilo Coast Processing Company. He was also a member of Papaikou Hongwanji Mission and Silverton Kumiai. Private services held. No flowers. No koden. Survived by son, Wayne Wagatsuma of Hilo; brother, Yoshimi (Grace) Matsunaka of Honolulu; sisters, Haruko Hayashi of Hilo, Toshiko Elsie Otani of Honolulu, Misao Janice (Hisashi) Okamoto of Honolulu and Kazue Koyama of Honolulu; sisters-in-law, Shirley Matsunaka of Hilo and Sadako Nakatani of Pepeekeo; brother-in-law, Clifford “Gabby” (Sayo) Nakatani of Alatadena, Calif.; two grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Charlene “Ant” Ulualoha Ah Nee, 66, of Hilo died May 1 at Hospice of Hilo’s Pohai Malama Facility. Born in Hilo, she was a retired bus driver for the Laupahoehoe Transportation Company. Visitation from 6-9 p.m. Friday at Dodo Mortuary Chapel, Hilo; Funeral Service at 7 p.m. Cremation to follow at Dodo Mortuary. Aloha attire. No flowers. Survived by companion, Loretta Evangelista; hanai sons, Troy Julian and Kaniala Estrada; hanai daughters, Patrice Julian and Fern Peahi; brother, Daniel Kaleo Smith; sister, Doreen Victorino; aunt, Maryann Van Allen; 10 grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. John Francis Gallipeau, Sr., 86, of Honomu died April 28 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Newport, R.I., he served in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee during World War II. He also served aboard the USS William C. Cole after World War II and the USS Bradford during the Korean conflict. He also served with the Military Advisory Assistance Group in Vietnam and later joined the U.S. Air Force, serving in Europe. He was also a member and a Eucharistic minister at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Honomu. Visitation from 5-9 p.m. Friday at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Honomu. Prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue from 8-10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Funeral Mass at 10 a.m.; burial to follow at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Casual attire. Survived by wife, Elsa Gallipeau of Honomu; daughters, Shaunne (Jerry) Souza of Kapaa, Kauai, and Sherrie Gallipeau of California; son, John (Lee-Ann) Gallipeau, Jr. of California; brothers, Joseph (Lu) Gallipeau of Oregon and Guy (Mabel) Gallipeau of Seattle; sister-in-law, Barbara Gallipeau of Florida; one grandson; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Raymond Reis, 72, of Hilo, died April 24 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, he was a former baseball player for the Banditos, a former truck driver for various companies and a former employee for the Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation. Caryn Aiko Mine, 54, of Hilo died April 24 at Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu. Born in Hilo, she was the Big Island account executive for Hawaii Bride &Groom magazine and formerly employed at the Internal Revenue Service in Hilo. She was also a member of the Hilo Coast United Church of Christ and Energy in Motion Fitness and Dance Company. Friends may call 3-4:30 p.m. Saturday at Dodo Mortuary Chapel; celebration of life at 4:30 p.m. Casual attire. Survived by mother, Tomiko Mine of Hilo; brother, Claton (Jodi) Mine of Kurtistown; sister, Shari (Russell) Chapman of Littleton, Colo.; nieces, Sara Mine and Julianne Mine, both of Kurtistown; numerous cousins, aunts and uncles. Hilarion “Gunna” Jonolino, 83, of Keaau died March 30 at his residence. Born in Kohala, he was a heavy equipment operator for the former Kohala Sugar Company and golf course maintenance groundskeeper at Mauna Kea Beach Hotel. He also was a member of the Family Christian Center Church in Hilo. Visitation from 9-11 a.m. Saturday at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Celebration of life at 11 a.m. Aloha attire.
