“Plant Medicine Intensive” will be offered 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday through Sunday, May 15-18. The fee for the four-day course is $299. To register, call 323-3318 or email agg@bishopmuseum.org.
Leonard studied traditional medicine with healers in Asia, North and South America and Hawaii. He is the author of “Medicine at Your Feet: Healing Plants of the Hawaiian Kingdom.”
“Plant Medicine Intensive” will include instruction and practice in botany and plant anatomy, collecting protocols and practices, wild foods as medicine, the use of plants to treat inflammation and injuries, topical uses of plants, and making tinctures, pills, poultices, oils and salves.
He will work with common plants found as garden weeds, Hawaiian native plants and Polynesian introductions, and culinary herbs. All of these plants have long traditions of medicinal use in Asia, Hawaii or the Americas, and most of them can be found growing at Amy Greenwell Garden.
