The Grandmothers &Grandfathers Club of Hilo honored Fred Degraaf and Roseline Victorine as its “Grandmother and Grandfather of the Year” during the recent Merrie Monarch Festival Grand Parade.

The Grandmothers &Grandfathers Club of Hilo honored Fred Degraaf and Roseline Victorine as its “Grandmother and Grandfather of the Year” during the recent Merrie Monarch Festival Grand Parade.

Degraaf, 93, lives at the Yukio Okutsu Veterans Home in Hilo. He was a mechanic on P-38 fighter planes during World War II.

Victorine, 90, has been a volunteer at Hilo Medical Center for more than 25 years.

The club invites the public to its monthly meetings. The next will be at 5 p.m. Thursday at Restaurant Kenichi at 468 Kilauea Ave., next to Hilo Ace Hardware.

As a special treat, three cast members from “The Variety Show” at the Palace Theatre will entertain the group at 6:30 p.m., following a no-host dinner.
