Kameron Marquez, a seventh-grader at Kua O Ka La school, was selected by school administrators because he exemplifies one of the school’s slogans, “to love and have respect for one another.”

Hawaii Community College student Jalia Hatori-Whitney, a graduate of Hawaii Youth Challenge, also received the award. She was recommended by Green Will Conservancy because of her commitment to that program.

Rotary Club President Glen Calvert, stated that the service club is recognizing students each month who demonstrate progress in their schoolwork. Teachers and administrators select the winners, each of whom receives a gift card and a certificate of recognition. Awards are presented each month at a Rotary meeting, which are held on Tuesdays at 6 p.m. in the historic Akebono Theater in Pahoa. The public is invited.
