The American Association of University Women and University of Hawaii at Hilo Women’s Center initiated a Student Mentoring Program for the spring semester.

The American Association of University Women and University of Hawaii at Hilo Women’s Center initiated a Student Mentoring Program for the spring semester.

Members of AAUW, Zonta and the YWCA also participated in developing a Mentoring Pathway with the UH-Hilo Women’s Center. This program is coordinated under the direction of Kristen Luning, co-president of AAUW; Hannah Wu, Women’s Center director; and Ashley Fukuchi, student coordinator for the mentoring program.

Twenty-two mentors and mentees were matched and will continue to meet until a closure event scheduled May 2.

“It was a great mentoring opportunity to help the young women who attend UH-Hilo,” Luning said. “Mentors reported that they felt they could assist the students, and still not feel the mentoring requirements were not too burdensome.”
