Gov. Neil Abercrombie announced Monday the release of $3.3 million for a new aircraft rescue and firefighting facility (ARFF) at Hilo International Airport.

Gov. Neil Abercrombie announced Monday the release of $3.3 million for a new aircraft rescue and firefighting facility (ARFF) at Hilo International Airport.

The amount was part of a larger release of $335 million for various airport projects around the state.

The new ARFF station will replace the current one, which does not meet the requirements set by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The current ARFF building will be utilized for storage upon completion of the new facility.

Other projects include:

l $305,500,000 – Consolidated Car Rental Facility and Roadway Improvements, Kahului Airport, Maui

l $14,460,000 – Overseas Terminal, 2nd Level Roadway Improvements, Honolulu International Airport, Oahu

l $11,749,000 – Concession Improvements, Honolulu International Airport, Oahu
