UH (14-18, 2-6 Big West) managed just five hits against four Mustangs pitchers and is in danger of being swept for the second consecutive series.

Scott Kuzminsky (3-4) went 6 2/3 innings and allowed four runs (three earned) on nine hits with four strikeouts.

Kaeo Aliviado hit a run-scoring double for UH in the fifth. In the eighth, Matt Miller singled and scored on an error. Stephen Ventimilia walked to lead off the ninth and scored, but Reilly earned his seventh save and second in as many nights.

Mark Mathias collected two doubles for Cal Poly (29-5, 7-1) and Bryan Granger (1-0) pitched an inning of scoreless relief.

Men’s volleyball

UH’s season came to end with a 19-25, 28-26, 25-18, 26-24 loss to Pepperdine in Malibu, Calif.

The Rainbow Warriors (15-12, 13-11 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) entered the weekend in control of its postseason destiny, but they were swept and UCLA grabbed the eighth league playoff slot.

Outside hitter Sinisa Zarkovic compiled 18 kills on .448 hitting for Hawaii, which missed the playoffs for the second time in three seasons.

Josh Taylor, a Punahou (Oahu) graduate, powered the Waves (18-6, 18-6) with 18 kills.

Softball

UH was swept in a doubleheader in Long Beach, Calif., falling to .500 in the Big West.

Sarah Carrasco cranked a grand slam in the 49ers’ 8-2 win in the second game.

Heather Morales (9-7) was the losing pitcher for the Rainbow Wahine (19-18, 4-4), allowing 13 hits and eight runs — six earned — with five walks and a strikeouts.

Ashlynn Booker hit a two-run single off Loie Kesterson (10-8) in a 5-3 loss on the first game. Kesterson didn’t walk or strike out a batter yielding nine hits and five runs in six innings.

Leisha Li’ili’i hit a two-run home run for UH and Kamehameha-Hawaii graduate Kiani Wong scored a run as a pinch runner.

Erin Jones-Wesley (17-4) and Amanda Hansen (14-4) tossed complete games for the 49ers (31-9, 8-0).

Water polo

Caity Lopes da Silva scored with 1:17 left to lift Hawaii past UC Davis, 5-4 in Honolulu.

Chloe Barr posted two goals for the Rainbow Warriors (16-9, 3-2 Big West), and Amy Carlson made nine saves.

Hannah Curran tied the game with 3:02 remaining with her second goal of the match for the Aggies (12-16, 0-5).

Sand volleyball

No. 3 UH ran its win streak to nine with 5-0 victories against Cal State Bakersfield and Arizona, then fell to No. 2 Pepperdine 5-0.
