Good News Jail &Prison Ministry hosted its annual banquet fundraiser March 31 at Church of the Holy Cross.
Attendance exceeded expectations, with more than 200 people participating, making it the best-attended event in the past five years.
“Attendees included Prosecuting Attorney Mitch Roth and Kulani Correctional Facility Warden Ruth Forbes, who came out in support,” reported Chaplain Mike Sidman.
Testimonies were provided by previous inmates who benefited and grew from the ministry.
Good News Jail &Prison Ministry was founded in 1961 and is a Christian outreach that provides chaplains, volunteers, counseling and educational programs to jails and prisons around the world. In the United States, more than 7.2 million Americans are on probation, in jail or prison, or on parole. That’s approximately one in every 32 adults.
“Most of the people behind bars are not there for life, as 95 percent of the men and women in our jails and prisons will be returned to society,” Sidman said. “This outreach provides inmates with hope for a different life once they get out, and while they are still behind bars.”
