Kahilu Theatre in Waimea presents a pair of intimate concerts this weekend.
Tonight at 7 p.m., up-and-coming New York tenor Cody Austin will sing to a small group of patrons who will be seated on the Kahilu stage. Local celebrity soprano Amy Mills join Austin for two special numbers. Accompanying them on the Kahilu grand piano will be Seattle-based concert pianist Elisabeth Ellis.
Austin is 2009 graduate of the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia, and the Broad Street Review describes his voice as possessing “a warm, rich quality, produced with an evenness that is rare.” He debuted in January as Alfredo in “La Traviata” with the Utah Opera and also performed with the Las Vegas Philharmonic Orchestra in October.
At the Kahilu, Austin will entertain with his hits of Andrea Bocelli and Josh Groban in Italian and English. Everett Knowles will play pre-show preludes. This concert is a benefit for the Kahilu Theatre’s Education and Outreach programs. All proceeds will go toward expanding current programs and building new offerings for the community.

At 5 p.m. Saturday, Ohrlando’s Chamber Ensemble says “mahalo and goodbye” with its sixth concert of the season, in the Kahilu Theatre lobby. The ensemble will perform as a duo oboe/bassoon and piano, and will present a varied mixture of music.
Included will be Bohemian music by early classic composer Johann Stamitz; a sonata by François Devienne, who is called the French Mozart; a piece by Mozart; and other pearls.
The performance is free but donations to the musicians are welcome.
