A 13-time Grammy winner joins two slack-key guitar masters on stage tonight at Honokaa People’s Theatre for a special performance.
Jerry Douglas, considered by many to be the world’s leading dobro player, will team up with Ledward Ka‘apana and Mike Ka‘awa for an evening of music. All will perform in solo, duo and trio combinations.
The dobro is a resonator guitar heard primarily in bluegrass music today but derived from the Hawaiian lap steel guitar of the 1920s.

Ka‘apana and Ka‘awa, collectively known as The Hawaiian Legends, won the 2013 Na Hoku Hanohano award for Music Video/DVD of the Year. Ka‘apana, originally from Kalapana, was part of the legendary Hawaiian music trio Hui ‘Ohana with twin brother Nedward Ka‘apana and cousin Dennis Pavao, the late, great falsetto vocalist.
Douglas has performed with a who’s who of popular music, including Alison Krauss, Eric Clapton, James Taylor, Mumford and Sons, Ray Charles, Phish and Bela Fleck. Douglas met Ka‘apana in the 1990s when they toured and recorded together for Ka‘apana’s “Waltz of the Wind” CD.
