South Hilo Parks and Recreation Department workers — along with fellow county employees and a big contingent of community volunteers — are gearing up for the 21st-annual Biggest Easter Egg Hunt on Friday, April 18, at Wong Stadium in Hilo.
South Hilo Parks and Recreation Department workers — along with fellow county employees and a big contingent of community volunteers — are gearing up for the 21st-annual Biggest Easter Egg Hunt on Friday, April 18, at Wong Stadium in Hilo.
Organizers will hide 30,000 plastic eggs containing prizes for youngsters in four age brackets to find.
The event is presented in partnership with the Hilo Jaycees, Hilo High School Key Club, Waiakea High School Key Club, Hilo and Waiakea Intermediate Builders, Hawaii Police Department, Prosecutor’s Office, Hawaii Fire Department, East Hawaii Kiwanis, Circle K and Men of Pa‘a.
The Easter egg hunt will begin at 9 a.m. with keiki ages 3-4. Each child must be able to hunt alone; no adults will be allowed on the field. At 10 a.m., it will be starting time for keiki ages 5-6, followed by children ages 7-8, then boys and girls ages 9-12.
Youths younger than 3 may get a goodie bag after participating in an activity at the Easter craft station in the stadium. Goodie bags will be limited to the supply on hand. Only bags provided by event coordinators will be allowed at the hunt. Baskets and other bags will not be allowed.
Special events in connection with the egg hunt will include:
• 7:30 to 9 a.m., Keiki I.D.
• 8-10:30 a.m., picture taking with the Easter Bunny, while supplies last.
• 8:30-10 a.m., Easter crafts.
• 9 a.m., contests for ages 12 and younger begin in milk drinking, ice cream eating and an egg fight.
