Applications are now available for the Alternate Energy Inc. $1,000 Hawaii Student Scholarship.

The scholarship is available to all students from Hawaii who will be attending an accredited university in the fall 2014 semester. Hawaii residents studying in the state of Hawaii and within the continental U.S. are eligible for the scholarship. Students in all fields of study are qualified for the award.

The scholarship submission deadline is July 27. The winning student will be notified on or before Aug. 11.

Alternate Energy Inc. (AEI) has been a frontrunner in Hawaii’s solar energy movement for more than 20 years, striving to educate Hawaii citizens about the financial and environmental benefits of choosing solar energy.

“This marks the first year AEI takes its efforts to the classroom with its first annual scholarship prize,” said Alternate Energy spokesman Sam Hendrix. “The prize will be awarded to a Hawaii student who answers one of two short essay questions about the state of solar energy in Hawaii, along with a short survey.”
