Police have arrested a 22-year-old Captain Cook woman in connection with a the non-fatal shooting Friday morning of a 26-year-old Holualoa man.

Police have arrested a 22-year-old Captain Cook woman in connection with a the non-fatal shooting Friday morning of a 26-year-old Holualoa man.

Randi-Keli K. Banagan was arrested on suspicion of attempted second-degree murder at 9 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Road D and Koa Lane in Ocean View. As of Sunday morning, she had not been charged, but had been charged on an unrelated warrant with contempt of court and four counts of failure to maintain bail or bond.

At 7:47 a.m. Friday, police responded to a report of a man with a gunshot wound on Waiono Meadows Road in Holualoa. Police identified the road as Waiono Meadows Road, however, the posted street sign identifies it as Waiono Ranch Road. The incident occurred approximately 1/2 mile up the steep road.

The victim reported he and his girlfriend had been walking down the road when they encountered an acquaintance driving up the road, according to police.

After the victim and woman in in the car got into a confrontation, the woman in the car reportedly shot him with a rifle and drove away.

The victim was treated and released at Kona Community Hospital.
