It should be a huge red flag when our state legislators (state Sen. Russell Ruderman), elected by and for the people, has personal agendas and is looking to gain.
Mr. Richard Ha’s re-appointment to the (state Board of Agriculture) should be a welcomed challenge to you. A board of fair, experienced and knowledgeable people is they key to any successful group, especially when all sides can be represented.
Mr. Ha, as you well know, deals with facts. His roots are here on Hawaii Island, and he is always looking at new ways to help people not just for now, but for our future. He listens to people with an open mind and shares his knowledge. His quiet and respectful demeanor, along with his life’s work in agriculture, is a huge plus for the Department of Agriculture.
As the president of Island Naturals food stores, don’t you think you are being a little biased? You may wallow in your revulsion by his nomination, but at the same time, you need to identify the revulsions of your actions.

Not so ‘organic’
(The Associated Press article) on GMO legislation in Friday’s paper was quite entertaining — not sure whether that was intended or not.
The photo of the breakfast cereal used in the article highlights the fraudulent underpinnings of the organic foods industry: If one bothers to look at the ingredient list for the cereal shown, the second ingredient is sugar. Yet, because it is “organic” and GMO-free, it somehow magically becomes healthy for you.
With the nation facing an epidemic of obesity among the younger generation — and no small fraction of their elders — this industry has convinced the credulous consumer that their high-fat, high-sugar, high-salt — and high-priced — products will enable them to lead healthier lives.
Fat chance.
I was also amused by your choice of lead spokesperson for the supporters of the anti-GMO bill; a self-proclaimed farmer, Mr. Bob Petricci’s most salient characteristic as a community spokesperson is his conviction for dealing drugs. No doubt he used only organically certified materials for that crop as well.
You were kidding us … right?
