Hui Pono Holoholona, an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization, will sponsor a low-cost, spay-neuter clinic for cats Friday, at the Eagles in Keaau, across from the Hawaii Island Humane Society. Appointments must be made in advance.

The cost is $35 for females and $25 for male cats, with a 9 a.m. check-in time.

“The reality is, because there are not enough homes for all the cats and dogs born in this community, thousands are euthanized every month,” said organization founder Frannie Pueo. “Be a part of the humane solution. Be your pet’s hero.”

Hui Pono encourages the community to be pet-responsible. via education and by making available affordable such spay-and-neuter clinics for cats and dogs. If you are managing a feral cat colony and need help, or need to borrow traps for this clinic, call 968-8279.

“Funds need to be stretched over as many animals as possible, so we ask you to contribute what you can to the cost and/or volunteer if you are able,” said Pueo. “Mahalo for your understanding.”

To make an appointment, call 968-8279 or email.hphhawaii.org.
