Chain of Craters Road in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park was closed briefly after a landslide covered one lane of the road below Kealakomo on Sunday. Crews used a backhoe and dump truck to remove debris and the road reopened Monday afternoon, according to a park spokeswoman. No one was injured in the incident. Here, heavy equipment operator Herbert Botelho uses a backhoe to clear the road. He removed approximately 100 cubic yards of lava rock and debris from the roadway.
