Kewby Meyer hit a tying three-run home run Saturday night and Nevada rallied to score eight runs in the ninth inning to beat the Rainbow Warriors 10-6 in Honolulu.
After Meyer tied the game with a blast to right field, Jordan Devencenzi chased Jordan DePonte with a single up the middle and eventually scored when Scott Kaplan walked with the bases loaded against Josh Elms. Jordan Dunatov scored on a wild pitch and Kyle Hunt added an RBI double.
The disastrous inning wasted a fine effort by Scott Squier, who struck out six in 7 2/3 innings, allowing six hits, two runs and three walks.
Marc Flores produced an RBI double as Hawaii (7-11) scored three runs in the first inning, and Kaeo Aliviado brought in a run with a double during an eighth in which UH seemingly put three valuable insurance runs on the board.
But Eric Gleese allowed two infield singles and a walk to load the bases in the top of the ninth inning, then DePonte (1-2) allowed two hits and threw a costly wild pitch. Elms walked four batters.
Adam Whitt (2-2) got two outs in the eighth to pick up the victory for the Wold Pack (9-9).
Stephen Ventimilia and Flores finished with two hits each for UH.
Volleyball
Hawaii fought back to force a fifth game, then came up goose eggs in a five-set loss at No. 6 Stanford.
Brian Cook hit an efficient .444 and slammed 21 kills, including three to help close out the Cardinals’ 25-23, 25-13, 17-25, 21-25, 15-7 victory.
Brooke Sedore posted a match-high 25 kills for UH (11-10, 9-9 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) and Sinisa Zarkovic added 12.
Hawaii rode hot hitting to rally back in the third (.577) and fourth (.435) sets, but its attack percentage slumped to .000 as Stanford (14-7, 11-7) dominated the fifth set.
Softball
Cheridan Hawkins tossed a two-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts as No. 3 Oregon beat Hawaii 3-0 on the final day of the Wahine Rainbow Classic in Honolulu.
Loie Kesterson (7-5) pitched well in defeat for UH (12-13) and went the distance, allowing six hits, three runs — two earned — and a walk with three strikeouts.
Courtney Ceo was 3 for 3, including and RBI single, with a run scored for the Ducks (23-2).
Hawkins didn’t walk a batter, improving to 13-2.
