A state House committee will consider a bill next week authorizing the state to purchase land in Waipio Valley.

Senate Bill 3063 would allow the purchase of an unspecified amount of land from the Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum and establish a working group to address preservation of natural, cultural and historic resources in the valley.

The lands would be purchased to enhance public access and protect resources, according to the legislation.

The Senate passed the bill March 4. The House Committee on Ocean, Marine Resources and Hawaiian Affairs will consider it Wednesday.
