The public is invited to attend a special Disaster Preparedness-Lessons Learned Workshop from 5:30-8 p.m. Thursday in Hilo.

“Learn about tsunamis, earthquakes, hurricanes, tropical storms and skills for business, community, individual and family preparedness with a behind-the-scenes view of the County Civil Defense Center,” said Connor Clay of the sponsoring AmeriCorps Hilo Improvement Program.

Hawaii County Civil Defense Administrator Darryl Oliveira will speak, focusing on helping community members and local businesses become more aware of how to safely deal with destructive conditions.

This workshop will be hosted at the Civil Defense office at 920 Ululani St. in Hilo. There will be limited seating. The registration deadline is today.
