Toshiyuki “Fish” Yamaoka, 88, of Hilo died March 11 at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in Laupahoehoe, he was a retired heavy equipment diesel mechanic for M. Sonomura Contracting Co. and a member of the Operating Engineers Local Union #3 and Hiluhilu Kumiai. Friends may call 10-11 a.m. Monday at Dodo Mortuary Chapel; memorial service at 11. Casual attire. Survived by wife Eiko Yamaoka of Hilo; brother Dr. Ronald Yamaoka of Honolulu; sisters Masako Ballesteros of Hilo, Sumiko Kim of Pearl City, Oahu, Kiyomi Okura of Hilo and Fumie Kaneshiro of Las Vegas; hanai family Sung Ki Kwak of Hilo; numerous nieces and nephews. Edward Costorio, 72, died at his home in Wailuku, Maui. Born in Ookala, he was a former member of the Ookala Boxing Club and Kamehameha Canoe Paddling Club of Oahu, a graduate of Laupahoehoe High School and Cannon Business College, a Navy veteran who served during the Cuban Missile Crisis and was a retired IT program analyst from Hawaiian Airlines.
